The Wisteria lamp was one of Tiffany Studios' most popular models. These two lamps (see also N84.130) show dramatically different interpretations. One shade has a refined selection of purple and pale blue flowers (N84.130) while this lamp displays bold contrasts of blue and white clusters. When the demand for this shade exceeded the work capacity of the Tiffany Girls, Clara Driscoll was forced to turn over some orders to the Men's Department at the Corona factory. She made color studies to aid the men in selecting the glass. See also N84.127 for more information about the Wisteria lamp.

Despite a popular myth that credits Mrs. Curtis Freshel of Boston as the designer of the Wisteria Lamp, it was Clara Driscoll who invented it. In several letters to her family, she referred to how well the lamp was selling (by March 1905, some 123 examples had been made) and she proudly boasted that its success was to her credit since she had designed it. Composed of nearly 2000 small pieces of glass and thus labor intensive to produce, this lamp cost $400 in 1906. While not the most expensive of Tiffany lamps, it fell into the upper tier of prices.

The Laburnum shade resembles the Wisteria shade in design but has a more open and undulant quality. Unlike the Wisteria, it was not linked to any specific base and did not have the pierced bronze top. Although the Wisteria shade was discontinued in 1910, the Laburnum remained in production until 1923, perhaps because the more open shape at the bottom allowed a wider pool of light.
