Spend A Day With History! Free Events At DCHM
Come spend a day with DCHM! The New-York Historical Society and DiMenna Children's History Museum will be free for children under thirteen from Thursday, November 1 through Sunday, November 4! Check out our schedule of events for all ages, all day long!
Thursday
10 am–6 pm: Scavenger Hunts! Grab your hunt and see what you can find on all four floors!
11 am: Story time! We'll be reading Larry Gets Lost in New York City and Where Are You, Little Zack?
At the Kids’ Table: Unusual Recipes During World War II
Unusual Recipes During World War II
Saturday, March 2nd 2-4 pm
In this final At the Kid's Table session, we will explore the wartime diets of 1940s New Yorkers. During WWII, families were encouraged to grown their own food in "Victory Gardens" to free up more of the food supply for the troops. In this workshop, families will explore the WWII & NYC exhibit, plant their own windowsill Victory Gardens of spinach and tomatoes, and learn how to use their vegetables to cook a delicious 1940s dish.
Spooky Stories and Tricky Crafts
We're celebrating Halloween on Sunday! Drop-in from 12-2 pm to create Spooky “Trick or Treat” bags for Halloween, and there are prizes for kids who come in costume!
All Aboard: Historic Trains and Toys Weekend
December 15 and 16, 2012
1–3 pm
Free with Museum admission, ages 2 and up
Families will create train-inspired art, hear tales of the rails, hunt for hidden objects, and learn about the history of trains. Different programs each day!
Wartime Birthday Cake
Taste test birthday cakes! See a WWII ration book up close to see (and taste) the choices families had to make about shopping, rationing, and cooking during WWII.
Free with Museum admission. All ages.
