Little New-Yorkers

Every Tuesday and Friday. Free with Museum Admission. Ages 3-5.  

Each class includes time with historic toys, a special Little New-Yorkers hello song, story readings, and a related craft project.

Little New-Yorkers in October and November

October 7 and 10: This week we’re travelling to far off lands for a story from India, to learn about Tansen the great music magician. Children will then make their own decorated Indian elephant. 

October 14 and 17: Laundry Day by Maurie J. Manning. This wonderful book will transport kids to the historic and ethnically diverse streets of the Lower East Side. Kids will then make their own felt clothesline necklace. 

October 21 and 24: This week we’re meeting one of the characters from the Dimenna Children’s History Museum., Cornelia Van Varick. Taking a closer look at littleCornelia, we’ll explore her daily life and go on a magical journey with her. Children will then make a woven Turkish carpet. 

October 28 and 31: Frankenstein A Monstrous Parody by Rick Walton. This week we’re celebrating both Madeline and Halloween with this funny parody book. We’ll meet Frankenstein, the scariest of all the monsters and Miss “Devel” among others. Children will then make a Frankenstein mask. 

November 4 and 7: My Taxi Ride by Paul Dubois Jacobs and Jennifer Swender. There are many ways to travel around the city, but this week we’re celebrating the one and only yellow taxi in this fast paced rhyming book. Children will then make a flying taxi.

November 11 and 14: Louie by Ezra Jack Keats. Susie and Roberto are two friends who decide to put on a play, but they didn’t realize that it would change one little boy’s life. Children will then make finger puppets.

November 18 and 21: Snow White in New York by Fiona French. This week we’re reading a reimagined old classic, this time transported to the streets of New York in the roaring 20s. Children will then make a NYC princess crown.

November 25 and 28: Madlenka by Peter Sis. Little Madlenka is really excited that she has lost her tooth, she runs around the block and the world to tell all her friends and neighbours about it. Children will then make a magic world accordion book.
