Celebrate Fourth of July with Alexander Hamilton!

Kick off our Summer of Hamilton and come celebrate the Fourth of July with a Founding Father! To commemorate American Independence, the 3rd New Jersey Regiment will guard Alexander Hamilton, soon-to-be the first Secretary of the Treasury of the United States, as he presides over a day filled with revolutionary fun. Read below for descriptions of all our amazing holiday activities! Spend the whole day with us and enjoy some special, kid-friendly lunch fare available for cash only purchase on our second floor!

Note: All activities, including tours and performances, are free with museum admission and no rsvps are required.

Meet Alexander Hamilton
11 am – 4pm

What was it like to be a lieutenant colonel and aide-de-camp to George Washington in the American Revolution? Ask our Hamilton reenactor! See what it was like to work with General Washington or convince him to teach you how to be a leader in the field with  the military manual he helped create!

The 3rd New Jersey Regiment
11 am – 4 pm

Enlist in the Continental Army! The 3rd New Jersey Regiment, a reenacting troop, will encamp living historians throughout the Museum to answer your questions about life on and off the battlefield. Check out their tent and uniforms, or learn a drill!

Hudson River Ramblers
11 am – 4 pm

Join us for tunes ‘n tales from the American Founding era! The Hudson River Ramblers are back and will regale families with the story behind “Yankee Doodle,” introduce the young girl who outrode Paul Revere, and reveal why George Washington threw a tantrum on Broadway. The Ramblers will be performing at 11, 1, and 3 in the Children’s History Library and interacting with visitors around the museum at other times.

Patriotic Crafts
11 am – 4 pm

Find a nearby craft station and get into the revolutionary spirit! Make a tri-cornered hat to wear during drills with the 3rd New Jersey regiment or create a flag to add to a 1797 New York cityscape depicting the Tontine Coffee House, a favorite meeting place of Hamilton's.

The Big Founding Fathers Quiz Thing
12 pm

Join us for NYC's premier live trivia company presenting a special themed edition of its multimedia game show spectacular! Win prizes and glory! Jump into the Lightning Round, the Buzzertastic Finale, and much more. Fun for all ages!

Family Tour: Hamilton’s Dueling Death
45 minute tours at 12:15 and 2:15

Get an in-depth look at the infamous 1804 duel between Vice President Aaron Burr and Secretary of the Treasury Alexander Hamilton that tragically ended Hamilton’s life. See artifacts related to their duel and learn some of the history and etiquette of dueling in an interactive activity.
