Living History Days at N-YHS
Centennial Saturdays: Go on Expedition with the AEF!
Saturday, May 27th, 2017 | 11:00 am - 4:00 pm

Free with Museum Admission
Recommended for all ages

We’re commemorating the 100th anniversary of America’s official entry into the First World War by bringing New York in 1917 to life! Each Saturday (except Independence Day Weekend), stop by the Museum to meet different personalities from the home- and war-fronts of the United States a century ago. Each week is different—you might discover the uniforms of army doughboys, run into a famous leader, or march with suffragists!

On Saturday, May 27, June 10, and June 17 kick off Centennial Saturdays and deepen your immersion into our new exhibition, World War I Beyond the Trenches, by meeting US soldiers in the American Expeditionary Forces. Portrayed by Living Historians, the troops will share stories about early 20th-century life on and off the battlefield. Try on the army’s helmet or ‘tin hat’ on your own head, dig into military tools and equipment, and inspect their uniforms from the top of their hooked wool collars all the way down to their special leggings for time in the trenches.

Check out our Family Calendar to discover each Centennial Saturday’s special theme!
