Little New-Yorkers
Tuesday, February 27th, 2018 | 3:30 pm - 4:15 pm

Every Tuesday and Friday. 3:30 - 4:15 pm. Free with Museum Admission. Ages 3-5.  

Each class includes time with historic toys, a special Little New-Yorkers hello song, story readings, and a related craft project.

Little New-Yorkers in May

Jennie’s Hat by Ezra Jack Keats and She’s Wearing a Dead Bird on Her Head by Kathryn Lasky, illustrated by David Catrow
Tuesday, May 1, and Friday May 4, 3:30 pm

This week Little New-Yorkers is celebrating our exhibition Feathers: Fashion and the Fight for Wildlife! We will read Jennie’s Hat by Ezra Jack Keats and discuss She’s Wearing a Dead Bird on Her Head by Kathryn Lasky, then children will make and decorate a one-of-a-kind hat of their very own.  Be sure to check out the exhibition and join us on Saturday, May 12, for our special annual program Meet the Fledglings with the Wild Bird Fund to see baby birds up close!

How Mamas Love Their Babies by Juniper Fitzgerald, illustrated by Elise Peterson

This week Little New-Yorkers is celebrating Mother’s Day! We will read How Mamas Love Their Babies by Juniper Fitzgerald, and children will make cards to thank caregivers in their life.

Tuesday, May 15, and Friday May 18, 3:30 pm

This week at Little New-Yorkers we will celebrate our special exhibition, Walk This Way: Footwear from the Stuart Weitzman Collection of Historic Shoes. We will read Those Shoes by Maribeth Boelts, and children will make a shoe craft to take home.

Memorial Day Surprise by Theresa Martin Golding, illustrated by Alexandra Artigas
Tuesday, May 22, and Friday, May 25, 3:30 pm

Little New-Yorkers is celebrating Memorial Day! We will read Memorial Day Surprise by Theresa Martin Golding and discuss what it means to honor those who have served our country. Children will make a patriotic craft to take home.

This week at Little New-Yorkers we are discussing self-expression. We will read Morris Micklewhite and the Tangerine Dress by Christine Baldacchino and Annie’s Plaid Shirt by Stacy B. Davids. Children will create a paper doll expressing how they feel inside.

Little New-Yorkers is celebrating the beginning of summer and the Coney Island Mermaid Parade! This week we will read Mermaids on Parade, and children will make a mermaid tail to wear home.

Little New-Yorkers is celebrating Father’s Day! We will read Knuffle Bunny Too, A Case of Mistaken Identity, and children will make a card to thank caregivers in their life.

Pride: The Story of Harvey Milk and the Rainbow Flag by Rob Sanders, illustrated by Steven Salerno
Tuesday, June 19, and Friday June 22, 3:30 pm

This week at Little New-Yorkers we are celebrating New York City Pride Week! We will read Pride: The Story of Harvey Milk and the Rainbow Flag, and children will make a rainbow crown to wear home.

Red: A Crayon’s Story by Michael Hall
Tuesday, June 26, and Friday, June 29, 3:30 pm

Have you ever felt pressured to be something that you are not? This week we are discussing identity and being true to one’s self. We will read Red: A Crayon’s Story, and children will work with adults to make an art project that celebrates individuality.
