Come meet soldiers of America’s past this July and August. Each weekend this summer, brigades will be stationed in full uniform ready to answer your questions and share their stories about life on and off the battlefield. And if you’re a revolutionary history buff, don’t miss our special installation: Lafayette’s Return: The “Boy General,” the American Revolution, and the Hermione opening May 29.

Although a member of the French aristocracy, the Marquis de Lafayette devoted his youth to the American Revolution. He went on to play a major role in George Washington’s defeat of the British army, aiding the patriots with both his pen and sword. His fervent letter writing helped secure French aid necessary to win the war. After convincing French King Louis XVI to open the royal coffers, Lafayette triumphantly returned to America aboard the Hermione in 1780.

Our exhibition coincides with the launch of a recreated Hermione that set sail from France for a two-month, 3,819-mile journey, including a New York City port call over July 4 weekend. Join us this summer and celebrate the “French Founding Father.” Come learn about the lives of soldiers during the Revolutionary War and other conflicts from more than two centuries of American history.
