Paper Son: Lee's Journey to America by Helen Foster James & Virginia Shin-Mui Loh, illustrated by Wilson Ong

This month, we are celebrating the recent opening of our special exhibition Chinese American: Exclusion/Inclusion with four beautifully illustrated Chinese and Chinese American stories.

Come hear the immigration story of twelve-year-old Lee and learn what it was like for him to arrive in America and become a paper son. This week, we will be joined by an educator from Planet Han who will perform an additional reading of Paper Son: Lee's Journey to America (in Chinese!) and engage children with activities, such as songs, crafts, or games, incorporating simple Mandarin vocabulary and Chinese culture.

Based on the Upper West Side, Planet Han (planethanchinese.com) is a fast-growing language enrichment program that serves children and their families in New York City, utilizing a proven "Model. Action. Talk." teaching approach.

Support for the Macy's Sunday Story Hour provided by the Macy's Foundation.
