This Mother's Day, learn what it's like to be a mommy bird at this totally unique program co-produced by the DiMenna Children's History Museum and the Wild Bird Fund. In honor of New-York Historical's special exhibition Audubon’s Aviary: The Final Flight (Part III of the Complete Flock) the Wild Bird Fund (WBF) will come to the Museum to teach us all about our neighbors with nests. Participants will see a presentation about the bird life of New York City and wild bird rehabilitation, feed a baby bird in the WBF’s care, and have the option of crafting nests for baby bird patients. Everyone who comes will also get a special Audubon pin button to show their appreciation for moms with and without feathers.

This program has an age restriction for the safety of the birds that will be handled and fed by children in attendance. Children must be age five and up to feed the birds.

About the Wild Bird Fund

The Wild Bird Fund (WBF) is a state and federally licensed 501(c)(3) that cares for the injured, ill, and orphaned wildlife of New York City. All migratory, native, and non-native birds are treated, as well as wild mammals, reptiles, and abandoned domestic fowl. In 2016, the fund helped 4,775 animals — an increase of more than 35 percent from the prior year.

The WBF mission is twofold: to provide veterinary care and rehabilitation to native and migrant wildlife so that they can be released back into the wild, and to educate New Yorkers about the rich diversity and environmental needs of the city's precious wildlife.
