This fall, book club has election fever! Author Neela Vaswani will join us to discuss her novel-in-letters that explores the 2008 election season through the eyes of two fictional kids confronting issues in their communities. Families will have an opportunity to view the exhibition Campaigning for the Presidency, 1960-1972: Selections from the Museum of Democracy.

In 2012, we spoke to Neela Vaswani about her inspiration for the book and her favorite parts of New York. Read our interview with her. Want to know if she has different answers to these questions today? Ask her yourself this Sunday!

About Same Sun Here by Silas House and Neela Vaswani
River and Meena seem like they would have nothing in common; River is the white son of a Kentucky coal miner being raised mostly by his grandmother, and Meena is an Indian-American girl living in New York City's Chinatown with her parents and older brother. They begin a friendship as pen pals and, even though their cultures and hometowns are worlds apart, realize they have much to learn from each other. Despite their differences, they live under the same sun. Readers will enjoy this novel in letters, which won a 2013 Nautilus Gold Award.

About the Reading into History Family Book Club
Every month families read a historical fiction or nonfiction book together at home and then attend a Book Wrap event, where they share reactions to the book, see cool Museum artifacts and documents related to the story, and meet other history detectives and special guests! Past special guests have included authors Walter Dean Myers and Avi and Rita Williams-Garcia, plus Museum curators, historians, and other experts.
