Do you know what it means to be “Hirschfelded”? Try your hand at this exciting, educator-led sketching program. Families will be introduced to the work of Al Hirschfeld through the works exhibited in The Hirschfeld Century: The Art of Al Hirschfeld. They will look closely at his use of expressive lines and, after a turn in the Barber’s Chair, have the chance to embellish their own Hirschfeld!
Families will be given paper with works from the exhibition printed on them, with the detailed expressive lines removed. They will be encouraged to look closely at and mimic Hirschfeld’s style of fine line drawing and add their own experimentations. Just as Hirschfeld incorporated his name and the name of his wife and daughter into many of his works, kids and their grown-ups will be invited to sketch in their own name or the name of a loved one into drawings of their own!
