Have you ever had a knish? Do you like them round or square? Baked or fried? Join us for a special reading of The Knish War on Rivington Street with the book’s author Joanne Oppenheim! After the reading, stick around to ask the author all about the real historical event the story was based on and maybe even get a copy of the book signed.

Joanne Oppenheim is an award-winning author of more than 50 books for and about children. A former early childhood teacher, Oppenheim was an editor of the Bank Street College of Education Publication Department before she co-founded the Oppenheim Toy Portfolio, a review of products for children. She spends a lot of her time playing with toys—when she isn't at the library researching a new book. She is a New Yorker and prefers round, baked, potato knishes, which, by the way, were the top sellers in 1916, according to the two knishery owners who inspired her book, The Knish War on Rivington Street.
