All ages

Celebrate Black History Month at the New-York Historical Society! Join historical reenactor and living historian Cheyney McKnight of Not Your Momma’s History as she makes camp at N-YHS. Before the Civil War, slaves risked their lives to escape bondage and secure their freedom. Dressed in period costume, McKnight will share the harrowing journey many brave African Americans endured via the Underground Railroad. Learn about life along the way, the few possessions they carried on their backs, and how they passed the time during their flight to freedom.
