Silver-plated bronze struck medal with obverse showing three-quarter portrait bust of Columbus, facing left, within central roundel with legend: "CHRISTOPHER. COLUMBUS", with three caravels around within stylized wave-like border, labeled "PINTA," "NINA," and "SANTA MARIA." Reverse bears inscription at center: "TO.COMMEMORATE.THE.FOVR/HVNDREDTH.ANNIVERSARY.OF/THE.DISCOVERY.OF.AMERICA.BY/CHRISTOPHER.COLVMBVS/by.authority.of.the/committee.of.one/hvndred.citizens/of.NEW YORK."; shield with Spanish royal coat of arms above, surmounted by crown with date: "OCTOBER.XII./M.C.C.C.C.XCII."; shield with American state seal below with date: "OCTOBER.XII./M.D.C.C.C.XCII."
