This portrait, the last ever painted of Aaron Burr, was copied by lithographers and engravers on several occasions. On a lithograph published about the time of Burr's death there is a testimonial written by the subject: "I certify that the Portrait by Vandyke is the best Likeness ever Painted of me since 1809. N. York 1st Jany 1834. A. Burr."
