In 1927, Charles A. Lindbergh (1902-1974) made the world's first solo non-stop flight across the Atlantic. He took off from Roosevelt Field, Long Island and landed at Bourget Field in Paris. The flight took 33 1/2 hours and was an outstanding feat of courage and skill. Upon return to the U.S., he was dubbed the "Lone Eagle," and was awarded the Medal of Honor, greeted by crowds and celebrated with an enormous New York City ticker-tape parade.
