This medal, commissioned by the American Red Cross and executed by the Medallic Art Company after Daniel Chester French's model, was awarded to twelve New York businessmen who volunteered for the War Council of the American Red Cross. The initials of Will H. Low on reverse of this medal were included due to his suggestion that the nurse stand in front of the bed.
