Description: 
Pair of beech Louis XV armchairs ("fauteuils"); medallion-shaped back with rosette carved crest rail; open serpentine arms on molded serpentine arm supports; wide U-shaped seat with serpentine front edge upholstered over the rail with green and gold damask; upholstery also on back and arms; carved knees and skirt with cabriole legs.

These chairs were owned in New York by a member of the Gallatin family, possibly Albert Gallatin (1761-1849), who served as United States minister to France from 1816 to 1823.
