Its aim is to promote global peace, security and economic development. The basic structure of the organization was decided at the Dumbarton Oaks conference in 1944. At this time New York City was chosen as the site of the organization. The grounds of the organization are not considered part of the U.S. and are not bound by any U.S. laws.
