Rectangular wooden box with domed, hinged lid, painted with geometric pattern of flowers and vines in red and yellow on green ground; latch and catch made of punched, tinned sheet iron.

This box is one of approximately 50 made by the so-called "compass artist," who worked in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania in the early 19th century.
