Description: 
Brown woven hair bracelet with metal clasp fastener and safety chain; the band consists of four strands, the central two are worked in a spiraling Jacob's ladder, the outer two consist of loops of hair woven together down the center; the clasp fittings are fan shaped with floral design, the clasp is medallion shaped and has a faceted yellow rhinestone at the center; inscription on reverse of clasp.

This remembrance bracelet was given to Emily Augusta Van Beuren by her sister, Josephine Frederica. The hair may have come from Josephine, although hair jewelry could be purchased commercially in the nineteenth century. These sisters were connected with the Van Beuren House, formerly on West 14th Street in New York City.
