Cast, seamed and wrought silver candlestick; cast baluster shaft supporting an applied, wrought socket; shaft set on to a molded, hammered splayed foot; engraved on the foot, "ECHO DE PLATA NATIVA/ PARA ALVARADO/ OBSEQUIADO AL REPRESENTAN/ TE WM. SULZER POR EL/ PRESIDENTE ESTRADA CABRERA/ DE GUATAMALA 1910" in block letters; maker's marks stamped on the foot.

According to the donor, this candlestick was hammered from native silver by a Mayan craftsman for Alvarado, the Conquistador of Guatamala, and presented to the donor by Estrada Cabrera, President of Guatamala.
