White treated cottontwill weave garrison-style cap, with red piping.

This cap came to the Society's collection new in 1937. Following the stock market crash in 1929, with the ranks of the city's unemployed, New York City was the national headquarters of the Communist Party USA. Many young members, mostly children of immigrants, were from the City College of New York and Brooklyn College. The C.P.U.S.A. was influential in the development of unions at that time, including the Transport Workers Union, led by Communist members Mike Quill and James Larkin.
