Dark blue wool handmade cape with double collar and 13" shoulder cape; collar and 9" wide lining of opening edge made of black velvet; collar closes with a bar on left side fastened to adjustable loop; shoulder cape lined with black twill-weave silk, cape lined with black plain weave wool.

According to the donor, this cape was worn by Samuel Blachley Webb (1753-1807). Webb served in the American Revolution, rising to the rank of Brigadier General and serving as aide-de-camp to Washington in 1776. He was one of the original thirteen officers to form the Society of the Cincinnati in 1783, and was Grand Marshall of proceedings at Washington's inauguration.
