Description: 
Flat-folding black beaver (silk) chapeau with two bands of black ribbon that extend diagonally from lower edge on front side, framing a capsule-shaped cockade with pleated black ribbon border and eagle insignia and button with same on gold ground at center; black ostrich feather plume; gold bullion tassel at each corner; black painted metal case with hinged lid and handle.
Gallery Label: 
According to the accession records, this chapeau was worn by Colonel George Creighton Webb (1853-1948), uncle of the donor. Webb was a U.S. Army officer and envoy to Czarist Russia.
