Description: 
Wrought and cast silver compote; deep, circular, bowl-shaped body on a high pedestal; convex shoulder rises to a plain rim; seated on either side of the shoulder are two cast and applied figures of Pan playing horns above applied and cast lily-of-the-valley handles; front center of the body engraved, "A V R" superimposed; body applied to a high, stepped, splayed pedestal foot; ring applied around the stem with four applied ball and cup finials; makers' marks on the base.
Gallery Label: 
Wedding gift to Olivia Phelps Atterbury (1848-1923) and Kiliaen Van Rensselaer IV (d. 1905), who were married in 1870. It may have been presented to them on December 14, 1871 by the parents of the donor.
