The theologian Reinhold Niebuhr received his B.D. degree from Yale Divinity School in 1914 and the following year was ordained a minister of the Evangelical Synod of North America. He joined the Union Theological Seminary in New York in 1928 and remained there until his retirement in 1960. Niebuhr is shown reading, seated at his desk in his study at Union Theological Seminary, in this sketch.
