Description: 
Dress hat with blue wool felt crown with flat, circular top, light blue ribbon band edged with gold metallic cloth tape, and black patent leather visor; New York State seal embroidered in heavy gold metallic thread on front of hat; chin strap made of gold metallic cloth tape secured at either side by a button embossed with New York State seal.

According to the accession records, this hat was worn either by the donor or by his father, Thomas Henry Barber (1844-1905), both of whom served in the National Guard New York.
