Description: 
Pine ell measure with four tapering sides and cylindrical handle; decorated all over with chipped carved geometric designs.
Gallery Label: 
According to the donor, this rod was used by the Hubbard and Williamson families of Gravesend, Brooklyn, to smooth feather beds. Its original use was probably as an ell measure, a device used in the home for measuring lengths of fabric.
