Description: 
Forage cap with soft, oval, dark blue wool felt crown with two ventilation holes with grommets on either side, and black patent leather visor; black patent leather chin strap secured at either side by a gilded metal button embossed with shield-breasted eagle; brown leather sweatband and black textile lining.

U.S. Army enlisted men of 1895-1902 wore this style of undress cap with appropriate metal branch insignia (see "Encyclopedia of United States Army Insignia and Uniforms," p. 530).
