Description 
"Chasseur pattern" blue wool felt forage cap; soft crown with circular, countersunk top with dark braid applied in cruciform pattern with diamond shape at center and four loops surrounding; black patent leather visor, which is flat and somewhat rectangular; five narrow strips of braid applied to each side of crown, to back of crown, and to base of crown; embroidered insignia on front consisting of initials "N.D." between branches of laurel; chin strap made of narrow black cloth tape secured at either side by a gilded metal button embossed with shield-breasted eagle; leather sweatband and black silk lining.
