Description
With an early morning view of Manhattan in the background, this painting portrays a black-hulled freighter being escorted by a reddish-brown tugboat from the docks into the East River. To the right, a barge crosses the river and although details of the port are blurred by smoke and steam, one can still discern the outlines of several ships still in port.
