Pulaski was a Polish nobleman who joined the American struggle for independence. This portrait in oil by Dunsmore, a painter a scenes from American history, was copied from an engraving by the Polish painter and patriot Anton Oleszcynski (1794-1879), which was used to illustrate an article by the elder Henry Cabot Lodge on "How the West Was Saved," appearing in "Scribner's Magazine," vol. 24, July 1898, p. 60ff.
