Sitter is the father of the artist and the donor is the brother of the artist and the son of the sitter. He played an important role in the labor movement in New York during the late 1920 and early 1930s, as the labor organizer for Bond Bread Baking Company. He later became Secretary/Treasurer of Local 52 of the General Baking Union of the AFL. The Local subsequently joined the CIO and then became part of the Teamsters Union. The Bond Bread factory was located on East End Avenue and 82nd Street.
