John B. De Peyster was the twin brother of Elizabeth De Peyster, the second wife of Charles Willson Peale, and son of William De Peyster, Jr., and Elizabeth (Brasher) De Peyster. John B. De Peyster advanced Peale money to buy his first fossilized mastodon for the Peale Museum in 1801.
