Gallery Label 
The subject was born in Princeton, New Jersey, the son of James McComb who had come to the Colonies in 1732 from Scotland. He was a successful builder and architect in New York City, and also served as city surveyor. New York Hospital and the North Dutch Church were among the buildings he designed. His son John Jr. was the architect of New York City Hall.
