Salt-glazed stoneware jug with impressed maker's mark and decorated with cobalt blue bird perched on branch.

The Caire family dominated Poughkeepsie stoneware manufacturing during the second half of the nineteenth century. French immigrant John B. Caire purchased the Main Street pottery in 1842, later run by his sons Jacob and Adam.
