Gallery Label 
Most utilitarian stoneware produced in the 18th and 19th centuries was finished with a salt glaze, creating by tossing common table salt into the kiln during firing. The volatized elements produced a clear, glasslike finish that enhanced both the appearance and durability of the vessels.
