Bronze struck square medal with obverse depicting Liberty cloaking herself and a younger female figure in the American flag, set within circular field; surrounding legend: "VNIVERSAL.EXPOSITION.SAINT.LOVIS.VNITED.STATES.OF.AMERICA"; date in exergue: ".M.C.M.I.V." Reverse depicts American eagle with outstretched wings framing rectangular panel containing inscription below: ".SILVER.MEDAL./.LOVISIANA.PVRCHASE./.EXPOSITION."; pair of dolphins flanking scallop shell beneath; all within circular field. In red cardboard box stamped in gold "UNIVERAL EXPOSITION/1904/SAINT LOUIS.", lined in red velvet; explanitory sheet included in box interior.
