Typed: on paper label affixed to back of wood block: "U.S.S. GRANITE STATE/[Keel?] laid Portsmouth, N.H., Navy Yard 1819; known as the Alabama until 1863, when she was named the/ NEW HAMPSHIRE/ Launched 1864; served as a depo[---] ship during the Civil War. Places out of commission, 1892, and shortly after turned over to the N.Y. Naval Militia. In 1904, name changed to GRANITE STATE. Burned in 1921./ Gift of Admiral W.B. Franklin, 1931/ N.Y.N.M."
