Marks
Inscriptions: engraved at center-front with repousse and chased cartouche: "J De F W/ from Auntie./ Jan. 28, 1855" in script, bright-cut.
Hallmark: stamped in relief on base: "BALL, BLACK & CO" in semi-circle with conforming rectangular surround located above center punch mark. Beneath center punch are marks in relief: slightly obscured "W" in circular surround; "NEW. YORK" in rectangular surround; and slightly obscured "W" in circular surround [could "W" be eagle?]. Beneath those marks is relief stamp of "W.F" in rectangular surround, likely attributable to William Forbes.

The initials engraved on this mug belong to Jeanette de Forest Windle, who was presented the vessel by her aunt in 1855.
