This full-length portrait is not signed or dated, but is clearly in the same style as Pennington's large portrait of the subject's father (1933.9). Since the boy in this picture apears to be about nine or ten years old, it is safe to assume his portrait, like that of his father, was painted in Newport in the summer of 1894.
