Description: 
Square paisley shawl with pieced woolen center; radial design in red, light blue, white, black, lavender and green, with solid black center and border with stylized flowers repeated on either side of an undulating line; pieced outer border composed of embroidered rectangles of black, red, green, blue, yellow, and white cashmere fabric; fringe on all four sides.

According to the accession records, the donor's mother, Sarah Maria (Brett) Davis (1836-1920), wore this shawl to the 1876 Centennial International Exhibition in Philadelphia.
