Machine-woven garden pattern wool paisley shawl with orange, white, black, green and blue against red ground; the center is a black medallion set in a larger arabesque design that runs the length of the shawl, flanked by smaller arabesque designs, the overall pattern is primarily floral with boteh worked in; floral and scroll motif borders the selvege edges, various arabesque shapes alternate along the warp ends.
Gallery Label: 
This shawl belonged to Dr. Francis Miller (1817-1892), the great grandfather of the donor. Dr. Miller lived on Forsyth Street in New York. He served on the medical staff of the City Regiment in the 1850s.
