Richard Fisher was one of the proprietors of J. and R. Fisher's Bloomingdale Flint Glass Works in New York. He came to America from England, probably around the same as did his brother John Fisher (ca. 1785-1848), who arrived in 1810. This portrait was a gift to the Society from the subject's granddaughter.
