Rectangular iron rim lock with a warded keyhole and rectangular bolt and a now missing knob which retracted the spring operated latch.

hand engraved: on reverse: "Andre" typed: paper label attached to lock: "This lock was used Sept and Oct 1780 for the safekeeping of Major Andre; previous to his execution at Tappan; removed from the door of the room in which he was confined May 6, 1840."
