The subject, a noted playwright, was born at New Rochelle, N.Y. His first successful play, "The Road to Rome," was produced in 1927. Four of his subsequent plays, "Idiot's Delight," "Abe Lincoln in Illinois," "There Shall Be No Night," and "Roosevelt and Hopkins," were awarded Pulitzer Prizes.
