For many years the president of the National Women's Trade Union League, Rose Schneiderman was a crusader for improved conditions for the American working woman through union organizations, education, and legislation. Long a friend of Eleanor and Franklin D. Roosevelt, Miss Schneiderman was appointed to the National Recovery Administration, and in 1937 was named secretary of the New York State Department of Labor.
