Description 
Ink sketch on paper basted to linen; central image of Lavinia seated on a rock, with lighthouse, ocean and ship in left background; large tree in right foreground with small house behind. Notations include: "the name of this peace is Lavinia seated on a rock I will send you the song as soon as I can get it" and "plain grass shaded like that peace you painted at Mary Ann Noyes." Many notations for coloring.

This sketch was donated by Miss Anna Gillingham along with a group of stitched and embroidered textiles and a watercolor picture. Included in the group is a sampler made by Sally Noyes in Middletown (Connecticut) in 1803 and another sampler worked by Catherine Noyes. This sketch may have been made by or for a member of the Noyes family.
