Reverse depicts image of Thames Tunnel with legend above: "LONGITUDINAL SECTION OF THE THAMES TUNEL/FROM ROTHERHITE TO WAPPING 12OO FT/L 180.000SUBSCRIBED BY PROPRIETORS/BY PARLIAMENTARY GRANT/L 270.000"; inscription in exergue: "COMMENCED 1825/BROKEN IN MAY 1827 & JAN 1828/SUSPENDED TILL 1835/OPENED TO PEDESTRIANS/1845."
